Pen Power

The Power of the writing with a pen stimulates the brain to learn.

As a business mentor, I am passionate about writing with a pen and not a keyboard. The action of writing stimulates the brain to learn and react differently to the situations we may face.

Being passionate about ‘PEN POWER’ as I call it.

This allows your brain to work through the different obstacles that may be stopping you or holding you back.

Hand-drawn Pen Sketch

I’m a nerd from way back, how about you? I love studying the brain and the power it has over  the stories we were told and heard as children. Along with those words that go round and round in your head.

  • I’m not good enough.
  • You are charging WHAT for your services, no-one will pay you that.
  • You need to be cheaper if you want to succeed in business.
  • Try harder and then you will succeed.

This is all balderdash as I say … NOT True … Falsehood … if that is a word?

I’m a Wedding Textile Artist as well as a Business Mentor.  I have many notepads & journals. They help me sort out my ideas, giving me clarity. Pen Power

Every new client I have gets their own notebook or at least a piece of paper in a manilla folder so that I can be clear and precise about their story and their mission.

We all want to replace the Remote Control Button in our head and the do loops that are happening and see progress happening in our business and in our life.

Simply thinking of all these things is enough to make anyone feel stressed and in turn, cause us to be unproductive. Writing things down helps create clarity and focus. In turn this  creates productivity in our personal and professional lives.

This productivity can give us permission to smile at the things we have achieved during the day.

The Power of the writing with a pen stimulates the brain to learn.

Here are 8 reasons how writing can help us.

Power of the Pen and the power that writing has on your brain and the neuroscience behind it.

Here are just a few things that could be on your daily list

  • Your client meetings.
  • Grocery shopping list.
  • That “big idea” you thought of overnight.
  • Your business strategies.
  • When to exercise.
  • That inspirational quote you wanted to share on Instagram.
  • Your wedding anniversary (and yes sometimes I forget too).

HINTHave a journal or notebook next to the bed for those middle of the night thoughts and ideas … This will allow you to remember that bright idea in the morning.

1. Writing things down helps you remember things.

Learning: Life is busy, as human beings it is becoming harder and harder to remember all the things we need to do.

We constantly need to be on top of things and if we feel we are not then often we begin to feel overwhelmed or experience information overload

2. Writing things creates clarity for your thoughts.

Clarity: I know when I start writing I start to feel a sense of relief, as if a weight was lifted off my shoulders. Just the process of writing allows me to start organising things, just like this blog post.

3. Writing things down gives you focus on goals and the things that are important.

Do you know what’s more powerful than having clear goals?

Focus: It’s having clear goals written down.

By having your goals, priorities, and intentions in front of you in writing, you’re forced to literally see and evaluate each of them. Which one is important and which one is not a priority? You can do that one  later.

For example: When I started planning this post, I had an idea jumping around in my head.  After starting to put it on paper, I saw that my thoughts were jumbled and there was too much irrelevant information.

4. Writing things down helps keep you motivated and on track to finishing your project. How To Motivate Your Sales Team

No matter how hard you try, motivation doesn’t last. You have all this energy and you start. You think you can conquer the world and then you get distracted with an internet search. Suddenly you are off track and don’t know where you are going. But because you have something written down, you can find your way back to where you should be.

You don’t want to go down the rabbit hole of self-doubt and hesitation a few days later and lose focus on your final goal.

Don’t hide your goals. Keep them where you can see them. Whether you have them listed in your phone, on the wall or window behind your computer, taped to your office door or jotted down in your planner, keep your goals visible.

5. Writing things down helps you recognise emotional issues.

It seems everyone is so “busy” nowadays and unfortunately, busy-ness leads to stress, anxiety, and even more serious health problems.

In fact, according to the American Medical Association, stress is the basic cause of more than 60% of all human illness and disease. Fortunately, writing things down is one way to help significantly reduce all of that.

Because you're forced to put your emotions into writing, you can process your thoughts (whether positive or negative) and feelings at a much deeper level than simply thinking about it. It’s also a form of release or therapy whenever you’re feeling angry, depressed, or overwhelmed.

6. Writing things down allows you to see daily progress.

By writing things down, you can see the things you have achieve each day as you tick them off.  You can write each thought you were thinking about the job you were doing. This can help you reflect on what is working and what is not.

As the shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis once said,Always carry a notebook. Write everything down… That is a million dollar lesson they dont teach you in business school!
Not sure about what I’m saying?
Here are a couple of people that write things down:
  • Richard Branson, entrepreneur and founder of the Virgin Group.
  • Tim Ferriss, podcaster and author of The 4-Hour Workweek.
  • Tony Robbins, motivational speaker and author of Awaken the Giant Within.
  • Oprah, media giant and former talk show host of the Oprah Winfrey Show.
  • JK Rowling, novelist and author of the Harry Potter series.
  • Hal Elrod, motivational speaker and author of The Miracle Morning.

7. Writing things down allows a higher level of thinking, and more focused action.

When your brain isn’t busy remembering everything, your brain can then process anything.

Given all the things I need to do, which one will have the biggest impact on my life?
Which 20% of my activities yield 80% of my results?
Which activities can I eliminate, automate, or delegate?

You'll find that what we don't do sometimes matters more than what we actually do.

8. Writing things down develops your sense of happiness and gratitude for the things you have.

Oprah Winfrey, one of the most influential media personalities of all time, is known to keep a gratitude journal. She overcame many hurdles to succeed. Her journal helped her to do this.

Conclusion

Writing things down is an easy yet effective way to be productive and deal with day-to-day overwhelm. Let’s start using an old fashioned Pen to just get things done!
